Rivaldo Vítor Borba Ferreira is one of only nine players to have won the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA Champions League and the Ballon d’Or.

Despite these accolades, he is possibly the most under appreciated player of his generation.

He is also responsible for scoring the greatest hat-trick of all time, against Valencia in 2001. The first was a free-kick from 30-yards, clipping the post on its way in. The second; a bullet from the same distance. The third, in the 88th minute; an outrageous bicycle kick from outside the box. Oh, and that game just so happened to be a winner-takes-the-final-Champions-League-spot decider.

After winning the World Cup in 2002 as one of the 3Rs, the man in the Mizunos was inexplicably released and signed for AC Milan. Spells at clubs back in Brazil, Greece, Uzbekistan and Angola followed, until finally retiring at the age of 43 at former club Mogi Mirim, where he scored in the same game as his son, Rivaldinho.

This was to be the last of his 377 goals, in 813 games, for 14 clubs, in 4 continents over 24 years. Not bad for someone who wasn’t a striker.
